INFANTS may seem to be sleeping most of the time, but they're far more intelligent and receptive than most adults imagine. They are eager to learn, and their learning capacity becomes greater when there's constant attention from parents.
``Mothers should speak to the child regularly, so that they observe the patterns of speech. At four months, the child will stop everything and look at you when you speak,'' says Revathi.
The early child education history in India is known from the ancient epic "mahabharatha" . In Mahabharatha "abhimanyu" son of arjuna learnt while he was in his mother's womb. He started hearing a conversation between lord krishna and five pandavas when he was still at his mothers womb. krishna was teaching how to break the trap of "badmavyug", a type of trap set in the war to catch and kill the brave warriors who cannot be defeated by any other means. abhimanyu learns from his mothers womb how to get inside the trap, but unfortunately, her mother gets up and goes away, while krishna explaining how to come out of the trap. abhimanyu learnt the art of getting in but never knows how to come out. this resulted in his fate, later in the war, that he was trapped, caught and killed by the enemies.
This proves that children learn even before they are born as baby's ears begin to form at around eight weeks and become structurally complete at about 24 weeks. But as early as 18 weeks, the bones of the inner ear and the nerve endings from the brain have developed enough for your baby to hear sounds such as your heartbeat and blood moving through the umbilical cord. He may even be startled by loud noises! For the rest of the pregnancy, sound serves as a baby's major information channel.

All this should be done in a patient, unhurried, loving manner, so that the child never feels pressured to come up to expectations. When it came to development of the infant brain, there was no difference between the children of the affluent and those of the poor.
